"It's completely random what I might remember?" He blinks, puzzled. He believes her, but it's not the best of news.

Yes.

It may be an incomplete memory as well.

"That doesn't sound terribly useful."

[gandere]

It isn't. All part of the scam to make you do whatever it takes to remember everything. I wouldn't be surprised if they could control what we remember.

"How... would they do that?"

[gandere]

I don't know. How could they make us lose our memories in the first place? It's all too convenient really.

"You believe that the people in the laboratory caused our memory loss?"

[gandere]

They might have. It's still too early to be certain about anything, you know?

It's great! It's like reliving your life all over again! I've had so much fun remembering some great old memories! But, ya know, I'm kinda lucky, so I dunno if you wanna base it on me.

"You've remembered only pleasant things, thus far?" He sounds almost wistful.

Well, there's a few unhappy things. Like when you lose a favorite toy, or a pet dies, or stuff like that. But I know a lotta folks have had it rough in the past. I guess it's all a matter of figuring out what you do with the memories you get back, huh?

"I suppose it is, isn't it?" he answers thoughtfully. "Though some are more difficult to find a use for than others."

Oh, I think all memories have got a use! Even if they just give you a sense of normal, or help you keep things in perspective, ya know? Just gotta make sure you don't OVERDO it, though. The past is the past!

"Overdo?" Cue confused-face. "How d'you mean?"

You know. Let it take over. A lotta people get bitter about th' past when they should be tryin' to make the future brighter, ya know?

There's a pause as he thinks. For some reason, those words sound vaguely familiar to him, like a kind of deja vu. "I think they do that... because there isn't anything they can do about the past, and that... makes them feel powerless. No-one likes that. It can make a person angry. Obsessive."

Oh, Shen, only in an amnesiac state could you ever come to a realisation like that.
