[PRIVATE]

*He "dreams." But he's getting better at recognizing the memories for what they are. And unfortunately, once again it's not pleasant.

When he lights the candle in the dark room, he barely manages to keep his composure when the sound of a cry of shock forces him to realize that he's not alone in the room. Thankfully, for once it's a friendly face; Takeshi huddles, next to a somewhat suspicious looking statue. "Oh, it's you, Hiroshi. Don't scare me like that..."

He sighs in relief. "Takeshi! You're okay!" he exclaims. He doesn't need to get close to confirm that; only Takeshi would be quaking in his shoes like that, looking as startled as he is. It's the first real good bit of news he's had in the midst of all this running and puzzle solving.

Takeshi looks down at the floor; he seems somewhat preoccupied. "Yeah... but it's only a matter of time before that monster gets me... there's nowhere to run," he mumbles, his tone resigned and deadened.

Hiroshi frowns. Takeshi has always been a bit of a flake, to be sure. "Takeshi, you shouldn't talk like that. As long as we're alive, there's --"

"No! We're all doomed! Didn't you see that thing?! If only... if only I hadn't suggested coming here, we wouldn't be in this mess... It's... it's all my fault..."

He looks on the verge of a breakdown. Hiroshi isn't the best at being reassuring, and to be fair it HAD been Takeshi who had wanted to test the myth more than anybody else. Still, they'd all agreed to it, right?" "Takeshi, look --"

"It's ALL MY FAULT! AAAAAAAGH!" Hiroshi recoils as Takeshi, grasping the side of his head, screams and bolts out. He calls his name, moving towards him, but he's already gone.

Hiroshi sighs. It's always like this with him. Getting them into crazy situations, and then blaming himself. Hiroshi reassures himself that he'll find some place to hide, and hopefully will hang around there until Hiroshi or Takuro finds the necessary exit.

His choice of words in his head turn out to be unfortunate.

***
Some time later. More puzzles, more Onis. He's on edge, the terror of the entire situation fraying at him, with the constant ebb and flow of tension wearing him down. He's found the doll head he needs; wearily, he heads to the room he's sure it should go in, that peculiar room with the worrying noose hanging from the rafters.

He opens the door, mulling his next move -- and then looks up. The doll's head drops, unnoticed, from his hand. The previously empty noose is now... occupied.

Takeshi. Hiroshi had underestimated the depths of his despair. And now he hung, his body already growing cold, the chair he kicked away to launch his final departure laying on the side. 'Better to die now than to let the monster get to him,' it seems. Or perhaps he simply thought it was what he deserved.

He can't process it. He reaches out, as if to shake him awake, but the heat is already rapidly leaving his form, and there's no pulse. Someone watching him might think his stony expression to be callous. Perhaps it is. Or perhaps he simply just... can't react. Alas, poor Takeshi.

After a while, he realizes he can't stick around; the monster could show up any second. He takes the doll's head, fitting it where it needs to go, and sure enough the picture slides away revealing a safe. The code from the formerly white patch of wall, and... yes. Yet another key in his possession.

He turns and looks at Takeshi one last time before turning towards the door. He winces at the sound of a thump; gravity, it seemed, had won out over the rope. He exits the room, too busy, too overloaded to think about what has just happened.

And then a larger crash, from the door smashing open. All he needs is that quick glimpse of blonde hair and blue skin to tell him to run.*

[PUBLIC]

*Awake, again. He didn't feel anything at the time. Now, though, he has to fight a lump in his throat. That's the past; perhaps if he'd thought about it, he could have prevented it. But it's too late now, and there's something more concerning in the present anyway.

He looks through the binoculars from his spot on the hill near the lab. The moon is DEFINITELY closer.*

I have a bad feeling about this...

((OOC: 1% on Takeshi being the one suggesting visiting the mansion. 2% on remembering Takeshi's general personality, and some of his previous capers. And 2% on Hiroshi's final two meetings with him in 6.0.))
