So today was El Dia De Reyes, or "Epiphany" for those of you who don't speak Spanish. It was a pretty big deal for my family - more so than Christmas, though I'm not sure if the presents were always better. I remember my little sister would always bug me to write letters to the Wise Men, because my handwriting was supposedly better than hers. Supposedly because I really didn't see the difference...

... Hey, guys? I remember my family! Not all of my extended family, though my abuela seems pretty cool, but my mom and my dad and my kid sister too. Milagro was kind of annoying, but we usually got along whenever I had to babysit her, and my parents? Well, Dad owned his own car garage and Mom's a paramedic. We even went to go visit their parents in Mexico every summer!

It's kind of weird, knowing all of this now, but I'm kind of glad. It's... nice, in a way, to know that I won't be totally alone whenever I go back home.

El Dia De Reyes is just the Spanish name for "Epiphany." I'm pretty sure that's a... Middle Eastern? Russian? Whatever, it's a worldwide holiday.

Can holidays even go out of style? I don't think I've had any trouble recognizing any other holidays that've happened since I got here. Then again, it's all been pretty secular stuff, "Epiphany" sounds like it's probably religious.

Well, yes. Epiphany's the day when the three Wise Men - the Wise Kings - came to Bethlehem to visit baby Jesus. Mexico just focused a lot more on the Wise Kings than the rest of the world.
