[Booster's muttering to himself crossly as the video feed starts, but his expression switches to one of relief once he confirms that the phone's working.

...Is that coffee spilled all over his shirtfront? Apparently somebody has a story to tell.]

Sorry, guys, just a quick tes--

The Malicious Macchiato is not so easily vanquished!

[And whatever Booster was actually going to say is interrupted by having to dodge a punch from, of course, another would-be supervillain. Booster's counter connects solidly with a... rather unpleasant-sounding crack, really, followed by a WHUMP as the guy hits the ground again.]

Dammit, it's a pretty simple arrangement! I punch you once and you stay down, then I don't have to punch you again and everybody gets to go home happy! Well, I get to go home happy. You get to go to jail with all your teeth still in your mouth, which is about as close as you're getting. Why ruin such a sweet deal?

[He bends over and picks up the Malicious Macchiato by his shirt before he turns to face the gathered crowd in the coffee shop. The switch between "annoyed scowl" and "million-dollar smile" is practically instantaneous.]

Sorry you folks had to see that! Anna, I'll be back in about 15, could you make sure I've got another usual waiting for me? A triple shot sounds great, you're wonderful.

[Pushing the door open with the guy he's holding is probably a bit more spiteful than is strictly necessary. He finally looks down at his phone again once he's outside.]

Still going, huh? They actually make these things pretty tough. Well, while I've got your attention, I might as well ask: anybody seen Danny or Jaime lately?

Danny? Last I saw him was back when we chased you down. Jaime I think I talked to a little while after that, but since then nothing.

[And there's a tinge of concern that appears on his face as it dawns on him just how long ago that was. This is not a large town; he really ought to have seen them around by now...]

Way to stay on top of your team, man... Look, whatever, you know now. The name of the place is New Roots, and I can send you the number or check up on it myself if you want me to. In fact I'll probably do that anyway; I don't know Danny that well but Jaime's a good kid, and it doesn't seem like him to vanish when things get crazy. Not without a reason.

Jaime's not on the League, he's just a friend.

[Because, y'know. That makes it better.]

I'll check the flower shop out myself, but I'm not holding my breath. Vanishing's probably exactly what they did.

[Not "DO you think something happened." It's pretty obvious he was thinking along those lines too.]

Not as such, no. I just haven't seen either of them in a while and we could really do with having them around right now.

...I know what you mean. I haven't had the time to do anything but run around and stop supervillain wannabes. I'm ready to start offering my cooking services to people in exchange for helping us out.

Yeah, I cook. I know a lot of Japanese and Western dishes, and I'm pretty good at it, too.

Well, if you can really talk people into pitching in like that, you've got my blessing. I wouldn't normally approve, but right now, we could use all the help we can get. Just make sure anybody you recruit is actually qualified. These idiots lately aren't really dangerous, but they could still hurt somebody who doesn't know what they're doing, and there's always the chance that they'll get more dangerous.

No problem! I know a certain few people who could definitely help out, and one already likes my cooking. I don't think it'll be hard to pull this off.

[oh, ouch. He didn't actually think he'd be missed. He didn't think the problem with the villains was that bad, he thought the League could handle themselves while Danny sorted himself out.]

[Booster's temporarily stunned by Danny's response. He was honestly just expecting confirmation that they'd both disappeared, not for one of them to actually respond to him.]

[Oh. Oh dear. He's in trouble, isn't he.]

Um--I've been, uh...checking out more of the ruins! For clues. And helping people around there.

Yeah.

And you didn't think to tell anyone first?

You forgot? You've been gone for weeks and you didn't even so much as drop somebody a line because you forgot?

[Booster doesn't answer. He can't. All he can do is stare in bafflement. Bafflement and rage. Dammit, Danny, how do you even]

[Danny looks down and to the side, because he can't handle your scorn and anger, Superdad. He just can't, not right now.]

[There's a long silence as Booster slowly calms down. And now he feels kind of bad for losing his temper like that. When he speaks again, he only sounds frustrated, no longer furious.]

Danny.... Look, I'm sorry, but it's important that we know where you are. And you probably shouldn't be going out to the wilderness on your own, anyway, especially not with the Joker on the loose. Alright?

[he sighs. It still takes him a while to face the camera again, though.]

Got it. I won't disappear any more.

But...I keep hearing about this Joker guy, but I haven't heard of him actually doing much of anything. What's the deal with him?

The deal is that he's dangerous and crazy. That's really just about it. While you were out having a tea party with yourself in the ruins, the rest of us were dealing with a bunch of powerless idiots trying to cause trouble and we're pretty sure the Joker's behind it, which means it won't be too long before things get worse.

...Oh. [That stings, Booster. That stings.]

So we're keeping an eye out for the Joker now?

[Well maybe now he'll think twice before letting his personal issues get in the way of--ok no I can't continue this it is too hypocritical.]

We've been keeping an eye out for the Joker. Right now, we're looking for anything that might be the next part of whatever he's got planned. There's no telling when these idiots might get actually dangerous.

Yes, Danny, we're all very on edge and very busy, that's why you can't just run off without telling anyone.

If that really is true, do you think he'll be back again someday?

[His first thought is that nobody gets that lucky twice, but that's definitely not the right thing to say.]

Hey, it's possible. He was only gone for a month last time, maybe history'll repeat itself.

I hope so. I don't know what happens when you disappear all of a sudden, but I'd hate to think he won't be able to remember everything because of it.
