(no subject)

*You might have seen Kotetsu recently. He's been around, usually looking at something or other. First he reads through the newspaper classifieds, drumming his fingers impatiently. When whatever he's looking for in THAT fails to produce any results, he's on his PDA, flitting through the net -- and when THAT doesn't work, he's sitting glumly on a bench, hat over his eyes.*

Damnit, where am I gonna find the cash to repair all that crap? I only get so much from the stipend...

*It seems like he's having money troubles. This COULD make him a suitable guy for hire -- assuming you can be arsed to hire him for anything.*

[Yuri smiles politely as he approaches the bench, recognizing the man in the hat easily. They'd met at another bench like this one.] Good afternoon, Kotetsu.

[It's not difficult for Yuri to tell that he's concerned about something, as he isn't exactly hiding his feelings, but he asks judiciously:] How have you been?

[identity profile] a-civil-service.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Even now that Kotetsu's no longer slumping on that bench, Yuri isn't exactly fooled.]

I'm well enough. I've remembered my full name, Yuri Petrov, and the fact that I'm a lawyer. Otherwise, nothing specific, only fragments that don't form a whole. [Some were quite confusing, but perhaps because he doesn't have the proper context for them yet.]

[He pauses.] Is there anything troubling you?

[identity profile] a-civil-service.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. [He smiles again.] I do remember it being rewarding. I've already obtained a position at a law firm in the city, though I'll have to pass the bar here before I can practice.

Ah, you're looking for a job as well? A laudable goal. I don't like being idle, myself. [Another tactful pause.] You're having difficulties finding something suitable, perhaps?

[identity profile] a-civil-service.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I do hope so. I've learned a great deal already. I'd ultimately like to work for the Prosecutor's Office, if they'll take me on in spite of my dubious origins.

A Hero? [He considers this for a long moment.] Interesting. No, it doesn't sound like everyday work. If you're a Hero in the traditional sense, you'd save people, I assume? But accepting money for heroics doesn't sound right, as such acts are usually selfless.

[identity profile] a-civil-service.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods.] It's not unthinkable, with some organization. A Hero could be on the city's payroll, like the police or fire department. Perhaps we could speak to the city about it? As I said, I'm planning to discuss the possibility of working for them myself.

Do you know what exactly sets a "Hero" apart from a similar civil servant, such as the aforementioned police? We'd have to draw up a proposal.

I imagine so. Every large population has to deal with crime. It's an admirable goal. [He does respectfully suppress his smile at Kotetsu's childish enthusiasm.]

Ah, do Heroes have special abilities as well? What kind?

[He reflects.] We might have to find you something else to do in the meantime, until you remember more details.

[identity profile] a-civil-service.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so, too. I approve of anything that can reduce crime. [He smiles.] I'm rather dedicated to the cause of justice as well.

Yes, that's possible. [He himself has no memories of the kind, but he's willing to accept it could be true.] Have you remembered any special abilities, yourself?

I'm not sure if those in our situation are quite in a position to hire bodyguards. Are you in particular need of money? If not, you could simply volunteer your services. I worry about some of the children who are here without guardians, honestly.

Oh yes, I don't mean to pry. My apologies. I'll speak no more of it. However, if we do write up a proposal for the city in the future, you might have to trust some people with the secret. I'm not sure how such a thing will work, however.

I'm troubled by the fact that these young people have been taken from their families, their guardians. That isn't right. The adults among us should make an effort to look out for them.
