[The hospital. Not Shirou's favorite place in the world. But when he got Rin back safely from that wrecked ship, it was the only place he could think of to take her. At least there, the nurses could get her out of her wet clothes and monitor her condition until she awoke.

Not that that did much for Shirou's mental well-being. After changing out of his own wet clothes, he returned to the hospital out of concern for his friend. At varying points, before Rin wakes up, Shirou can be found in the hallways or in the cafeteria.]

[Shirou is sitting in a chair near the bed in which Rin lay. He's been here for a little while, as evidenced by his nodding off.]

*Thinking of what happened -- as well as the melancholy in her tone in her last video post -- Hiroshi's come to visit as well. Not the cuddliest hospital guest in the world, but he feels somewhat obliged to see how she's doing. He only lent her his scarf for a bit, after all.

That's good to hear. I'd say she should've been more careful, but I suppose it is rather difficult to predict an oversized octopus with an attitude problem.

It's a type of magecraft known as Projection.

*sigh* "Magic" again. I suppose that means it's too much to ask for some sort of theoretic principle that might explain it.

I can't tell you much, even for a magus. I just know that it uses up magical energy to create things. It's in the same family as Reinforcement magic, which strengthens the physical attributes of an item.

I guess as long as there's an energy source, there'd be a way to study it scientifically. That's somewhat reassuring, I guess. Honestly, I'm still adjusting to this whole concept of magic as an existing, measurable force.

The existence of magic and the practice of it are secret in my world, so I went the first half of my life without knowing about it. But I still learned about it when I was seven, and was still open-minded about that kind of thing.

Let's just... say my first contacts with the supernatural were less than enjoyable. At least from what I can remember.

Hey, you deal with magic. How much have you had to deal with, uh... monsters? Youkai. Stuff like that.

...Eh? I've only dealt with monsters out in the wild here. I don't remember anything like that back home.

Well, I guess you can't really help me on that front. But I should let you know that there's some nasty blue creatures that I've run into here that are pretty tough. Maybe you could punch through them, but... just in case, you should probably avoid them if you see them. Find a place to hide or... something. They're vicious.

Blue creatures? What kind of creatures are these?

I can't honestly give you a lot of specifics, because I don't know them. Some of them can be humanoid, others can be anything but. They've all got the same sort of unnervingly asymmetrical faces, I know that much. I can't even tell you exactly how smart they are because it seems to vary. But you don't want to meet one.

Can you tell me what about them makes them so dangerous?

I know, at least, that I've seen my roommate's... magic bounce right off them. They're relentless, and they seem to just show up out of nowhere. I... I feel like there's more to it, I just... don't really remember yet. I know dying around them only makes things worse for whoever's left alive, but I don't remember WHY I know that yet. It's very frustrating.

...Okay. Yeah, if they can't get hurt, that's a problem.

But...why would you have that feeling from creatures that are in this world?

I wish I knew, honestly. It might be some sort of side effect of the transfer process we go through when we arrive that it brings other things along with us sometimes. Frankly, I wish it hadn't.
