So hey! How's the remembering going you guys? Me, I'm doing great! Getting to remember a few more things about my daughter, and all the neat stuff I did back home. And I just remembered my hero! He was this guy, Mr. Legend. The greatest Hero of them all! He taught me I could do a lotta good things with my gifts, and I'll never forget that! Any of you guys remember anybody you admire?

[She answers nervously, and even quite guiltily.]

...What?

Hey. Okay, I want you to answer me honestly here, since heroes can tell when someone's lying their faces off. Did you mess up this other kid's room and paint a bunch of insults in it?

[She begins babbling quickly.]

Only 'cause he was mean to me and he tried to kill me! I mean at first he hung up on me so I was only gonna scare him just a little but then I went to his room and he had a kidnapped moogle and I was gonna free him but when I tried he did something weird to me and it put me in this little box and it didn't break and I couldn't breathe and...!

Whoa whoa whoa, okay, okay, slow down! Phew. Shoulda guessed there was a bunch of stuff he wasn't telling me. I THINK there might be some crossed wires going on here.

Look, okay. I think at some point you two gotta talk things out. Tell you what: You help him clean the mess in there, and I'll let you off the hook. I'll try to get him to apologize for doing... whatever it is you're talking about there as well. I bet he just didn't understand. Little boys can be kinda dumb like that, you know -- hell, I was one! But you can't go doing stuff like this in the future! Gotta take that moral high ground!

...nope. Not yet anyway. Glad you're remembering some people worth fighting for, so to speak. The most important things I've regained so far are a half-baked set of equations and a profound coffee addiction.

Mr. Legend, huh? Superman's the greatest superhero where I'm from.

You have to remember addictions? I'd have thought the addiction would just be kinda THERE.

There's always one, huh? I bet Mr. Legend's better though. Did you have a lot of people look up to him?

Oh, yeah, everybody looks up to Superman. He's everything a hero's supposed to be. Probably could've taken care of those blue monsters before they even became a problem.

I bet Mr. Legend could have done the same thing. Makes you kinda wish we had one of those guys here, huh? Guess we'll just have to do what we can by ourselves.

It would be nice to have some heavier hitters. Maybe not Superman, but somebody on that level would be a big help.

Okay, so maybe that was more of a re-realization. It's debilitating, I assure you... Yeah, okay, not really. [He says over the rim of his coffee cup.]

So what kind of gifts are you talking about?

*Whoops. He's gotten so used to talking casually about this sort of thing with the Hotel residents that he's forgotten some of them weren't THERE for the initial re-revelations. On the other hand, he might end up doing things with this guy, and it'd just come out ANYWAY.*

Ah, well... I suppose since you're in our overall group it doesn't hurt to say it, but don't go blabbing this out to the general public. I'm what they call a NEXT back home. Super powers and all that.

Damn straight! Gotta say, though, freakish blue things and green crap from the sky aside it's been pretty sleepy around here for the most part.

Lips are sealed. [With a guy like Booster for a roommate, he got used to the notion of selective deniability pretty quickly.]

So that means that those powers are common enough to have their own category where you come from, huh? I'm not totally sure I remember right, but I think they were kind of, you know, non-existant in my part of the world. Purely the stuff of comic books.

That being said... finding actual freakin' superheroes here is pretty damn cool.

"I suppose that depends on what you mean by 'admire.' All I've recalled, so far, is a ladyfriend I'd had... some time ago, I think." His gaze goes distant. "She was definitely something to admire. She almost made me forget ... home...." He trails off and his brows meet. "Home..."

I wouldn't exactly call them a dime a dozen where I come from, but they're common enough! And hey, trust me, even coming from a WORLD where we got heroes they're pretty sweet!

*The gaze looks familiar. He's not sure of the situation, but he feels like perhaps he can sympathize.*

Remembering lost loves, huh? Yeah, that can be a little bit of a downer. I guess you just have to figure out how to move on from that sorta thing like you did the first time.

He's a liar! Whatever he said, he's wrong!

I don't want to talk to him. He's just gonna out me back in that weird box and probably kill me this time!

Look, this isn't really up for negotiation. If you're really worried I can come with you, but you're either gonna apologize or you're going to be paying for the damages entirely, got it? Vandalism's still a crime, and you just don't go countering a crime with a crime! Communication's key here, kid!

Far be it from me to complain about having too much business, but I'll gladly take sleepy over those blue things again.

Maaaaaan. It'd be awesome to do that. Wear a cool suit, run around beating up bad guys, protecting people, saving the world...

[He leans back and subconsciously reaches into his lab coat to fiddle with that strange grey cardkey he dropped out of the sky with. The one with the lambda symbol on it... he shakes his head and chuckles.]

I know there's probably more to it then that. There always is.

I wish I did! I know I ended up becoming a hero because of somebody, but I can't remember much about him.

...When you say hero, do you mean super hero, or just some really cool regular guy?

Kotetsu, you have a daughter as well? That's wonderful!

Nah, that's about the size of it.

Besides dealing with the network, anyway.

Superheroes, of course! I know anybody can be a hero and all, but Mr. Legend knew how to make a NEXT feel like something special, like someone who could actually help people instead of getting in the way all the time!

Eh? Oh, yeah. Still getting memories back about her. She should be about ten by now.

*He doesn't add he's been slowly remembering their relationship is a bit... strained.*

How adorable, she must have gotten the father's charm. [ She chuckles. ]

What do you mean, the network?

You know, the network! The guys who pay the bills! What, you think you can have a bunch of guys doing full time hero work without having some sort of way to make a living?

*That's one word for it.*

Oh, she's the most adorable little girl ever! It's too bad none of you can meet her, or you'd see!

Man, freaking seconded. Blurgh. There was just something damn WRONG about looking at those things.

Wait, are you telling me you guys need sponsors? Huh, that's something you don't really read about in the old comic books.

No no no, A NEXT. It's kind of a catch-all term for guys with superpowers where I come from.
