[Rin seems to be involved in some kind of undertaking! It involves her paintings. She is spending most of today in the long, cumbersome task of moving her paintings somewhere outside of the apartments. This would be a fair amount of hassle even normally, and Rin's missing limbs is not making it any easier.]

[That night. Rin is out behind the apartments, where she has apparently assembled a smallish fire. Not of the arson kind, it's nice and constrained and not going to hurt anybody. She's watching it blankly, back against the wall as she sits on the ground, with a cigarette in her mouth. The fire seems to have been kindled with old newspapers, mainly consists of firewood, and... there's something else in there, too.]

[As it dies down a bit, Rin drags another painting onto the fire.]

[Relm arrives just as Rin is tossing another painting into the fire. She is enraged.]

What are you doing?!

[Rin just looks at the fire for a long moment, almost as if she didn't hear the question or even notice Relm was here. When she finally does answer, she does it without looking up.]

I think I'm destroying a part of myself.

[Relm begins to attempt to drag the painting out of the fire.]

Why?!

[Rin watches without stopping her. The painting is already more or less ruined, though.]

I...

[It's very rare to see Rin actually falter in mid-sentence, instead of just taking a long time to get around to starting it.]

...I don't know if I have the words to explain. I am bad at explanations.

[Relm chants and several chunks of ice fall over the fire, but it isn't quite enough to put it out. She stares at the ruined painting while Rin speaks, then suddenly rounds on her, screaming.]

But you're not bad at painting! You're good! Really good! So don't be dumb!

[Rin steps backwards, feeling more cornered than the open space should suggest. She grasps desperately for the right words, only to find them out of arm's reach, as usual.]

I did it because I'm afraid.

[Relm doesn't relent, and advances, still screaming.]

Afraid of what?! Being an awesome artist?! That's so stupid!

[The rest comes tumbling out, disorganized and fast, as if she's afraid that if she stops talking, she won't be able to start again.]

I'm afraid because I woke up this morning and I had been crying in my sleep and I don't know why except that it's because there's another person named Rin and I'm turning into her except I don't know who she is and she's the one who made those paintings and I feel like I'm being dragged underwater and I can't breathe and everyone keeps talking about us like we're the same person and I never know how to explain anything but people keep asking the same questions and--

[That cuts her anger short. Relm just kind of blinks, confused, trying to make sense of the tirade.]

D'you mean Rin with the pigtails? Or... you, Rin? I don't get it.

I don't know, okay? I don't know what my problem is.

Your main problem is that you're burning art! Awesome art! Art that you made!

[As Relm once again advances, getting in Rin's face, it becomes obvious that the little girl is crying.]

I... I like your art! So don't do that, okay?

But this isn't my art. It was painted by a complete stranger whose memories I keep getting.

What do you mean? You're getting someone else's memories? I don't get it.

We all are. How can you be someone if you don't even remember who they are?

I don't know about that. I'm done with these paintings, at least.

I dunno you might be able to make a pretty intense personal message by using the ashes as part of your paint for new paintings. Sort of subsuming your past into your present. Or something.

Can you even make pigments out of ashes? Seems like they'd just all be gray.
