My last name is Sartre. I grew up with my father Albert and my brother Erhard in Maine. He's eight years older than me and was in college and already a surgeon when he was sixteen. He'd sometimes help my dad research something in my blood. I mostly just saw him during the summers, but I saw my dad every day. He'd help me with my homework if I needed it, and sometimes had bedtime stories. I went to Cumberland Elementary School until I was eight. My teacher's name was Mrs. Scherer. Then my dad quit working as a professor at Cumberland College and we moved to Mexico so that he could continue his research there, although my brother stayed in Maine for school.

Not bad for someone who supposedly can't remember anything before the age of 15, huh? Guess this place must've done something to reset my amnesia so I could remember everything instead of stuff only after showing up at Providence!

Because that's the name of my dad, and my brother...I know my dad and I moved to Mexico for a while, too, for the same reason you just said. That's weird, isn't it?

That is weird. Maybe you're my sister and we just haven't remembered each other yet?

Maybe. That would make a lot of sense, but I don't remember ever talking about another brother besides Erhard. Unless I don't remember that either?

It's weird that we'd both remember everything except for each other, though, isn't it? I mean, I know someone who's got her mom here, and they remember each other already.

It can't be that weird. I mean, just think about it--how much do we remember overall right now? That's still a lot of memories that don't have both of us that we can regain.

I remember enough to know what a lot of my life was like until I was around ten. Or I thought I did, anyway.

Psh, well, that makes one of us. I had amnesia back home already, so for all I know my brother was some genius surgeon and we did move to Mexico! After all, I can't tell, why wouldn't it be true?

It's weird. I know I was adopted. I remember coming home for the first time, and I remember meeting Erhard. And I remember living in Cumberland for a while! But I don't remember a thing about anyone at home besides Dad and Erhard.

Well...there wasn't anyone else. Just me, you, dad, and Erhard.

But we had a lot of friends at school. Mostly stayed over and hung out at their houses after school and all, since Dad worked late.

I don't really remember that.

I guess being a college professor is really time consuming. What did he even do there, anyway? Aside from teach--it can't take that long.

He was doing research. On...my blood.

Barely. I remember something about my blood being special, but not much. I just assumed it was because of my nanites.

Really? Because I remember...it was a virus in my blood, and the antibodies to it. Dad studied virology.

Huh. Virology. Wasn't expecting that. I thought it'd be something more like mechanics--something to do with tiny machines like the nanites.

No, he was a doctor! Of medicine, I mean. I think that's why Erhard ended up studying medicine, too.

So that they could both...study your virus?

No! I mean, Dad wanted to do that. But Erhard was already studying to be a doctor when Dad adopted me...I think maybe he picked it up from Dad.

...Is that why he adopted you?

No, of course not!

[Rosalia actually seems pretty offended by that.]

Dad's not like that. He found out about my blood a little while after he adopted me, but he wanted me first.
