[video] you're lucky it only took him a day and a half to notice
[Rex has been a tad preoccupied all week. First and foremost on his mind was updating his journal, keeping track of everything. He can't predict when he'll blank out, but he can prepare, and that's what's been on his mind. In fact, it was only when he stepped out of the apartment building to get some more photos that he began to realize something was off.
He got a photo of some eight-legged spider-llama before it opened its mouth and assaulted him with spider webbing. With him immobilized, it dragged him into the forest to a clearing filled with various animal monsters. It led him to the middle and the animals appeared to start...cheering? They closed in on him, but thankfully Rex managed to escape and fly up above the horde. It's then that he finally gets a closer look at the animals. The spider-llama, an oversized beetle with three mouths, a bear-spider, a suddenly animate tree...and a large rabbit with sharp, jagged teeth.
He tests his hypothesis by trying to cure the group of animals...and succeeds. He rushes back to town to see what's happening there. Destruction, EVOs running rampant...it's not pretty. He doesn't know how long this has been going on for, but now's as good a time as any to explain what's going on.]
Okay, everyone stay calm! Good news, I know what's going on here with all the monsters.
Bad news, the monsters all around town--they're EVOs! I don't know how it could've happened, but there must be nanites here, inside everyone by now, probably. They don't normally do anything, but they can turn any normal person or animal or even a plant into these EVOs! They usually get turned into monsters who don't know what they're doing, but not always--it can pretty much be anything.
Long story short? If you're noticing anything new or weird about yourself now, chances are you're an EVO too.
The other good news is, I'm an EVO too--and I can cure other EVOs. I don't know if I can get every single one, or cure everyone before someone gets hurt...but that's not going to stop me from trying.
Just...whatever you do, don't kill anything--they could be your next door neighbor. And if you spot an EVO, take it down without killing it! I don't know how this started, but I'm going to put an end to it.

[And the pieces fit together, and he audibly facepalms.]
Shit, of COURSE! The nanites are activating and rearranging the DNA! [Several labcoats behind him scramble as they realize too.] Listen, if you can come to the labs, we can use that expertise of yours. We've got several, uh... specimens in containment already, and we'd like to see and measure just what happens when you cure them... however you do it.

[He glances at the path from his current position to the labs, and spies all the EVOs. Nothing too big, thankfully, they can be quickly cured.]
Ten minutes. Can you wait that long?
no subject
Hell, take twenty, we'll need the time to set up field gauges and particle spectroscopes anyway, and these things are contained so they aren't going anywhere.
[There's a frustrated roar in the background.]

You sure you're okay over there?

[She's mostly speaking rhetorically, but Rosalia looks very nervous indeed. She remembers enough about this that together with current events makes a very scary picture of what could happen.]

...Don't tell me there's something else going on.

So...suppose, hypothetically, you already have killed some of them?
no subject
Then I guess they're dead now. [He shrugs.] Why, did you kill one?
no subject
Fuck.
no subject
Not much to do now except hope it wasn't someone you know.

[That is a very strangely muffled screaming sound. The brief mystery is solved when Palom unclenches his hand from around the comm and it displays him being chased by a horde of things that were probably once animals and want just deserts.]
S-So what am I supposed to do?! Ask them to go away?!
no subject
But since you're already there, I guess you could try shaking them off?
[Look okay Rex doesn't know how to hide from EVOs. He only knows how to beat the stuffing out of them and cure them.]

Yeah, unless you burn them to death first!

[He seems okay. Except that he's blue. His skin, hair, and eyes. All blue.]
I'm not going to turn into a monster, am I?
no subject
As for turning into a monster...I don't think so. If you were aiming for 'blue guy', though, you got that covered pretty well.

[He walks over to his bed and rests a hand on one of the white sheets. He keeps the video focused on the hand and arm. After a few seconds, the color of his skin lightens. Then turns completely white. The same color as the sheet.]
It's been happening all day. Whenever I touch something for more than a few seconds, I change color!
