Magic action, outside the hotel
[Across the street from the hotel was a rather large park that Erk found himself drawn to regularly. When the library did not have what he required, he would simply take his studies outside. This was one of those times, as he was starting to talk to himself, getting a little frustrated with attempting to learn his own past.]
This is ridiculous. Intensifying a spell in theory designed for novices? That is hardly effective in any practical situation; intensification takes time, and anyone doing it outside of a controlled environment would find themselves too powerful or too slow. Given the combat purposes, a creature could rush in that kind of delay to leave a mage defenseless. Removing the amplifiers should reduce casting time by at least a factor of two, if not more. This is hardly the foundation that should be built upon...
[He goes back to his reading for a few seconds before a realization causes him to go wide-eyed.]
...amplifiers? This book did not point out amplifiers-
[Cutting himself off, he held an arm out, his arm and fingers tracing a pattern in the air, leaving a wispy blue aura in its place. A short chant later and the aura began to shift colors before burning, merging into a fireball hovering over his hand.]
[For the first time since his arrival, a genuine smile crept onto his face.]
