Okay, look. I gave that lab anemoi like they told me to. And I still don't understand how it works, but I guess I did remember a few things, and some of them were about those creatures. Unfortunately, even with everything I remember I don't... honestly know a lot about them. But I can give a few details here and there.

I don't... know why they exist. In my world. There doesn't seem to be a reason for it. But I guess I can't really deny they exist at this point.

So what're the details?

All I can tell you is what I've observed. You've probably seen it too; they're territorial. Leave their territory, and they don't follow. The problem is, it's often hard to get off their territory again.

They don't have a logic as to how they get in and out. They're just... there. And gone sometimes. It wouldn't have mattered if we knew what room they were in, because they could've easily just appeared somewhere else if they felt like it.

And... there's a lot more of them. A lot. None of them look exactly the same.

What would you have done if somebody had died? Are you even aware of what would've happened if anybody HAD died in that place? With those things?

I guess I noticed most of that. 'Cept I didn't really want to think about it too much.

So. [Palom pauses at this point.] What do they want? What are they for?

...I don't know. I just... Maybe if I get more memories. Or something. Maybe it'll make more sense. But I'm not sure it did then, and I'm not sure it ever will. All I know is I ran into them, and I lived. Somehow. I don't remember a lot more than that.

It's... it's frustrating, you know! If I could just research them... if I could just make SENSE of them, maybe...

...You know how you don't believe in magic and things like that? I think that's kind of how I felt that night. Something like those monsters can't exist. It shouldn't exist. But it does.

Magic makes sense to me 'cause I understand the rules - it's not just random stuff happening like it probably looks like to you. You could understand it, too, if you really wanted to try. I feel like... no matter how much you know about those things... no matter how much you study. You won't ever understand the rules. I see that face in my dreams, and... it's not something I want to understand.

Damnit, that wasn't a game! That was... that was a murder attempt! What is WRONG with you?!

That's as may be, but... but I can't just leave it at that. I remember those things. I've met them before. They're tied into me, somehow, I can feel it. I can't just let that slide. I need to know. Know... something. Anything. Even if just to remember why I have to remember them in the first place. It's... important. I can feel it.

I'm not sure they really want anything, honestly. Remove intruders, maybe, but even then the way they go about it is...

Something happens when you die around them, you know. Something bad. I'm not sure why I remember it, but I do.

I don't know. That's what drives me nuts. I want to be a scientist, and all I've got with those things are questions. I need to remember more. Anything.

As much as it can, anyway. Those things sort of... defy any attempt to explain them. That might just be because you can't get close enough to study them, but the point remains.

It makes sense why you knew how to deal with them, though.

Not as much as I'd like. There's a bunch of different types, I know that much. They seem to be territorial, at least in the sense that they stop chasing as soon as you leave their property. And... well, you really, really don't want to be killed by them for more than the obvious reasons.

So the only real option is to run.

As far as I know, but I think you picked up I'm not really the kind of guy who fights.

Yeah. But if it doesn't do anything, that's probably a better plan than trying to fight back.
