[005] video/action -- are you ready for some footballlll

[The feed's a little jerky, and there's a sound from below, like Ken's hitting something periodically with his feet.]

I regained another memory today. It's mysterious, how out of order recall seems. My parents' names and faces are still unclear.

But I remembered something from my daily life! I'm a striker for the local soccer club. That's a position that mostly handles offense. Wormmon's never seen me play, but he says he'd heard I was pretty good!

Did anyone else used to play a sport?

[He actually sounds like he's almost laughing.

For those in the general area of the Ermis Suites, Ken's in the park across the way, kicking a soccer ball around with Wormmon and generally having a good ole time. He has a hobby! He has a hobby and a nice, normal life somewhere!]

Sure! It'll be fun to play again.

[And then he remembers-]

Hey, would it be okay if I brought a friend with me? I don't know if he knows the game, but I don't want to leave him by himself in my room while I'm out having fun.

[Ken grins too, encouraged.]

A-ah, that'd be fine! The more players the better, I'd think.

We're in the park across the street.

Alright, I'll be there soon!

[True to his word, he heads on over! And as promised, he is accompanied by an odd critter.]

Hey!

Ah, Takizawa-kun -

[And then he notices said critter.]

You too....? Or...

[Wormmon wriggles over to say hello.]

[The moogle gives a small wave at Wormmon.]

Kupo!

[Yuta, meanwhile, scratches the back of his head, his expression darkening slightly.]

We found him when we got locked in some ruins, so we got him out with us when we escaped. I couldn't exactly leave him on his own after all of that, so now he lives with me.

[But the expression goes away quickly as he moves on.]

Anyway, I call him Kupo since that's what he says the most. He doesn't speak our language, but he seems to understand it okay.

Kupopo!

I see.

[He kneels to nod hello to the Moogle.]

It's nice to meet you, Kupo. My name's Ken, and this is Wormmon.

Nice to meet you.

Would you like to play too?

[Kupo looks at the two new people and gives an affirmative nod.]

Kupo!

I asked him on the way here. It doesn't look like he knows the rules, but we can probably teach him as we go.

[Standing back up, Ken puts a hand to his chin.]

With two on two, normal rules aren't practical anyway. Perhaps we should just pass the ball to start, until everyone's comfortable.

Sounds good to me.

[It's his turn to kneel by Kupo.]

See that ball there? For now, we're just going to be kicking it around between the four of us. That's how it goes in soccer - you aren't allowed to use your hands, so you have to kick it as you run instead.

[The moogle listens intently, nodding. He looks willing enough!]

[Ken smiles and kicks the ball gently towards Kupo.]

You can begin, if you'd like. We'll spread out and you can kick it to one of us, or we'll try to take it from you and you can dodge.

[Wormmon is already off and "running". Speed is not his strong suit.]

Kupopo Kupo!

[Kupo nods and backs up a bit before giving the ball a good kick towards Wormmon!]

Ahh--!!

[Wormmon skitters towards the ball and hops directly in its path, striking it with the top of his head.]

Ken-chaan!!

[Unfortunately, he's now flailing backwards a bit, and rather than heading towards Ken the ball is making a beeline for Yuta.]

Whoa!

[Yuta manages to kick it up into the air high enough to give it a headbutt of his own. This time, it really is flying for Ken!

[Ken lets it bounce off his chest and drop to the ground, dribbling the ball back and forth along the field.]

Kupo-kun!

[He'll do his best to aim this shot just in front of where Kupo's running; he wants it to be easy to intercept for a beginner.]

[Kupo makes a valiant effort to intercept it, managing somehow to block the ball and kick it away!

...Although now it's just kind of off to the side by nobody in particular.]

K-kupo!!

Ah--

[Ken hurries off after the ball, glancing about for everyone's position.

Wormmon follows the ball, too, bouncing on his stomach to gain speed.]

Kupopopopo-

[Yuta waves at Kupo carelessly.]

It's fine. You're just starting out, so don't worry about it!

Kupo...

That's right, Kupo-kun. Here.

[Having retrieved the ball, Ken kicks it back to the Moogle for another try.]

[Kupo nods, backing up a bit before kicking the ball over to Yuta.]

Good job!

[He stops it and kicks it on over to Wormmon!]

[Wormmon intercepts it and just chases it for a while, unsure what to do with the ball now that he's got it. Ken sees his concern and points to two trees near the edge of the park clearing.]

That's the goal, Wormmon! Run for it!

[Or....Wormmon could trip. That works too.]

[Kupo takes the opportunity to try to get the ball away!]

Go, Kupo! You can do it!

[Sure enough, the ball's definitely left Wormmon's possession, free for Kupo to intercept.

Ken stops briefly to check up on his partner before chasing the ball.]

I'm gaining on you! Shoot it!

Kupoooo!

[He makes the shot! And...

It goes through!!]

Good job! You did it!

[Smiling, Ken jogs up alongside the Moogle.]

Congratulations, Kupo-kun. Excellent technique.

Kupopopopo!

[He seems pretty excited about his first goal!]
