fourth hop
[For a while now, Barnaby has been clinging to a memory of his parents, smiling and laughing and full of life. As a result, he's been doing all he can to remember what else he can't recall and return home as soon as possible, because he's sure his parents have been worrying about him since he disappeared.
But sometimes, some dreams are destined to be shattered from the moment you dream them.
The memory comes to him while he's asleep. At first it seems innocuous enough--it's Christmas Eve, he's four years old, and he's just been dropped off at his home by a kindly man. He waves him goodbye, then rushes in.
When he opens the door that leads to the living room, though, he doesn't see his parents waiting for him, with presents ready to opened.
He sees fire, blazing around the room, hears a gunshot ringing out, sees a man whose face is covered by flames for a moment, the tattoo on the man's right hand and his parents' corpses.
He snaps awake just when the man comes closer, breathing deeply. It takes a moment before he realizes that he's in his room, in Sirocco, that nothing's burning around him, and that the dream was far, far too real to be just a dream.
They're dead. They were dead, for the past twenty years, and he doesn't know where to begin, looking for the person who murdered them.
Except for that tattoo...]

[Huh, looks like Barnaby's been a little busy. There's something...different about him today, though. It's like he just remembered something particularly unpleasant, something that may destroy him, if given enough time.
He's also just finished drawing something. He's holding a piece of paper in his hand, studying it like he's searching for something in it.
It's a while before he speaks, his attention turning to the PDA.]
Does anyone know what this is?
[He holds up the piece of paper. It has this symbol on it, though a few details are slightly off. Hey, he's working from memory here.]
I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me anything about this.

....I'm sorry, Barnaby-san. If I ever knew, it hasn't returned.
Did something happen?
Nothing happened, Ken. It was just something that showed up in a memory, and I was curious as to what it was.
If I remember anything or see it, I'll tell you right away.
[Course, now he's worried about you. Whatever you remembered can't have been good.]
Thank you for the help. I appreciate it.

[ A lot of help she is. ]

...I was hoping for something other than that, actually.

The sword.. hm, surely it means something. I want to say justice, but I'm not too sure. Ah, so harmony and justice! That's what it means.
[ There, have some more not!help. ]

That could be one way to go about it, but there's not much context that could suggest it.

Well, that's about all I can help with. Why not take it to a library or something?
[ video ]
Are you alright, sir?
