ITP: Food hunting

[Hello Anemoi, there is a very serious-looking young woman fiddling with the buttons on her communicator. After a few moments of the natural fumbling that comes from trying to use it for the first time and not realizing the camera is on it rights herself and she gives the camera a small, if flat, smile.]

Ah, hello. My name is Arturia. I've just arrived here? Could someone tell me someplace where I could get something to eat? I seem to be famished.

[She looks at the interface on the screen for a moment, studying it, before realizing she's still being recorded and that she forgot something:]

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

[And she figures out how to turn it off.]

[And once that post and the obligatory wait for replies is through, Arturia herself starts walking through the city, a map she obtained under one arm while she checks the place out. Any landmarks, restaurants, and so on she catalogs in her memory--which she is surprised to find is pretty sharp despite not remembering much beyond her name and the ability to function earlier in the day.

She is not an unusual sight, given she's dressed modestly in a white blouse and blue skirt, but there's a certain rigidity to her, a certain steel, that the observant could notice. Otherwise she is an ordinary, if good looking, young lady.

Who happens to run into your character.]

Excuse me, I'm looking for the Ermis Suites? I was told I have a room waiting for me there, but it's not marked on my map. Could you point me in the right direction?

Famished? You look okay to me...

Nero had ignored the infernal beeping of of the strange device at her hip, being deeply of suspicious of any such engine. Instead, she prowled the streets. If, that is, someone in a crimson dress with a transparent front and waaaaaaaaay too much cleavage can truly prowl. She had explored thoroughly, occasionally waylaid the Plebeians to ascertain what land and city she had stumbled into, but they had fled when she raised herself to her full stature and glory. Alas. She peered through a store window, when a reflection appeared next to her own in the glass, just passing by.

That face was her own.

She turned on her heel as the woman in blue passed. Nero peered after her. Could it be... she had some kin in these foreign lands?! Nero set off in hot pursuit.

Well, famished might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I am awfully hungry. Would you happen to know a good place to get a bite to eat?

Arturia was alert, completely aware she was being followed by someone the moment she crossed the street. While she wanted to glance over her shoulder and see who it was and what they wanted from her, she didn't want such a confrontation in too crowded a place. What if the person was dangerous? It wouldn't do for someone incapable--though Arturia had no idea why she thought she herself would be capable--to get involved.

This was why she followed several signs indicating there was a park nearby and led her pursuer there. It would be both less crowded and open enough that any aid would easily be able to come and assist her. Once there she turned--

--And froze in shock. Just a few feet away was a woman in scandalous red clothing who had her face.

"Who are you, if I may be so bold?"

There are a lot of good restaurants in the city. They're all over the place, really.

I know, but seeing as I have very little idea where I am, it is hard to choose. Which is why I asked for a recommendation.

Well, I know several restaurants by name, but I don't know how close they are to you. The smartphone has a GPS function that you can use to search out nearby places of interest, including restaurants.

"I am Nero! And you?"

Nero stood, confidently facing this... imposter? Relative? She had very carefully guided them to a secluded space, so if a fight did break out no one would be around to intervene. Somehow, though, Nero found herself unafraid of the prospect: she knew she could handle herself. By the Gods, she felt excited at the prospect of joining blades with this woman!

Really? How do I make that work? [Her image spins as she turns the communicator around in search of the GPS function.]

It's on the main menu. Labeled "GPS." Touch it.

[She looks a bit sheepish as she finds the appropriate function. What the heck? If this is so commonplace why is it so hard to grasp? Is it the memory thing or was she just bad at technology?]

Oh. I see. And I input what I'm looking for in this bar, correct?

"Arturia," she said warily, eyeing the other woman up to gauge her as a potential opponent. Why were they mirror images of one another? Were they related? Cousins, perhaps? Or.... sisters? The only logical explanation Arturia could think of for them to look so alike would be for them to, in fact, be twin sisters.

The thought of some kind of family being in this place eased Arturia a bit, though she refused to let her guard down for the moment. See what came out of this and what exactly this Nero knew of the situation they had found themselves in?

"Did you just arrive here as well?"

If they were sisters, Arturia could not help but wonder, did she really need to dress in such a revealing manner? If they were exactly alike physically that meant it was her own body on display as well. This was not a comforting thought at all to her.

"I have, and I have found the locals to be most inhospitable to one of my stature." Nero stands tall and proud, sighing a sigh of deepest depression. What stature that might be, of course, she had no idea: she only knew she was someone important. That much was simply indubitable!

"Unfortunately, my arrival must have been rocky, as my memory is... a haze. Whatever the case. However, there is no question that there is some connection between us." Nero crossed her arms, very pleased with this deduction. "I suppose you are in a similar galley."

....what stature? Were they supposed to be important in some manner? Or was this merely Nero's personality shining through?

Probably a little of both, if she were honest with herself. And Nero was an observant woman as Arturia only nodded to her question about her own situation.

"Yes. I suppose, if we look so much alike and arrived at the same time, there must be some kind of connection between us." She didn't voice the conclusion she'd reached, almost afraid to bring it up. What if she was being too forward about the idea or worse?

But what if it were true?

"There is only one answer. I know it for sure. We, the two of us--" Nero rushes forward and takes Arturia's hands "-- are identical twins! Clearly, we came to this land together! The Fates have spoken!"

Really, it was the only rational answer.

Nero examined her sister in a new light: the girl needed a new, more impressive wardrobe. No sister of the legendary Nero (she forgot why she was legendary) would wear something so common! But she felt absolutely certain, the way she felt certain about all her endeavors: this is the proper path!

Arturia took a step back as Nero rushed forward and took up her hands. Sisters? Them? Well, there had been stranger things--of which she could not remember--and this was the only logical information with what either of them knew.

But, really, why did her sister have to such garish taste in clothing? Couldn't she cover herself up a little bit more?

"I suppose so. There's no other answer, really. We have to be sisters."

It was an oddly comforting feeling to know she wasn't by herself in this strange place, even if her sister was as much a stranger to her as anyone else.

"Clearly. Fear not, beloved sister -- I shall protect you in this foreign land!" Although Nero knew that this girl needed protection from precisely no one. She could feel it in her bones. She had nothing to fear for Arturia's safety -- nothing at all.

How exhilarating.

"I see. We must arrange for room and board! And to expand our wardrobes! And surely we must establish our presences here, in this foreign land!"

Nero had the undeniable urge of Empire -- to extend her reach here, and forever!

That's if you know the address. There should be a "Points of Interest" option.

[Her eyes scan the screen for a moment, before she touches the indicated portion of the screen.]

There's a library, a museum, and--oh! Here we are. Several restaurants! [She suddenly looks like she's having the best day ever.]

I've probably been to them, so ask me if you want to know what kinds of things they serve.

Okay, let me see....

McDonald's?

That's fast food. It's quick and cheap, but the quality's not the best. They serve things like hamburgers, fries, and chicken and fish sandwiches.

Arturia knew that they both knew Arturia could handle herself. Knew it in the way her muscles were strong though not large, knew it in the way she observed everything around her, knew it in how she simply felt experienced when the thought of being attacked crossed her mind. She had no context for it--all of it buried in the unsettlingly vast blank nothingness that seemed to end only a few hours before.

Still, Nero's presence was a comfort, even if Arturia rolled her eyes at the mention of wardrobes and establishing presences. Arturia wanted only to get the lay of the land first, find out where everything is, perhaps secure a safe place to stay. Well, that counted as room and board, she supposed. Arturia then proceeded to pull out a slip of paper she'd been given when what happened had been explained to her earlier.

"Apparently I already have a room waiting for me at the Ermis Suites? I was told they set up a form of lodging for everyone who is in our situation."

[THE BEST EVEEEEER!]
