[The hospital. Not Shirou's favorite place in the world. But when he got Rin back safely from that wrecked ship, it was the only place he could think of to take her. At least there, the nurses could get her out of her wet clothes and monitor her condition until she awoke.

Not that that did much for Shirou's mental well-being. After changing out of his own wet clothes, he returned to the hospital out of concern for his friend. At varying points, before Rin wakes up, Shirou can be found in the hallways or in the cafeteria.]

[Shirou is sitting in a chair near the bed in which Rin lay. He's been here for a little while, as evidenced by his nodding off.]

Well -- well of course it isn't! It's been over a day since that! We're in the hospital now.

[And yet, Shirou is going along with it.]

[ Slowly moving her arm off of her face to give him a dose of 'The Look' - a favorite tradition of all idiots. ]

[Yes, he's nervous now. Just let him explain, geez.]

You were, uh, knocked out. By the giant squid in the ship.

... The giant squid?

[ Her head must have been bumped a little too hard. There's a slight strain on her expression as she thinks back. Was that what happened to her leg? The soreness of that part of her body was starting to call her attention to it. ]

A stupid squid couldn't knock me out. What did you do to cause me to end up in a hospital?

[ GUESS WHO'S FAULT ALL OF THIS IS? Not her's. ]

What?! I didn't do anything! In fact, I saved you from the giant squid!

Oh, is that the way the story is going to go? You really want me to think you played hero against a squid? A squid?

[ That's almost as bad as saving her life from a giant turtle... ]

I don't want you to think I did, I'm just telling you what happened! I even jumped into the water after you!

[ Wait, he placed himself in danger for her? ]

Stupid! How can you act so recklessly!? Your life was probably in danger and for what!?

When the alternative was letting you drown? I had to do something!

It wasn't that bad!

It was a flooded compartment, and you were unconscious and in the clutches of a creature that doesn't need air! Of course it was that bad!

[ Instead of retaliating with cruel words and her misplaced anger, Rin settles down calmly on the bed. ]

I would have died?

[Okay. Deep breath.]

There was a good chance of it. That's why I jumped in and cut you free.

Geez. You really are reckless.

[ Maybe a normal girl would be thanking him, but all she can think about is how stupid he was to give his life for a near-stranger. ]

You shouldn't do things like that anymore. What if you get hurt?

If I get hurt saving a life, I don't care. Getting injured is a smaller price to pay than watching someone die.

What if you're the one to die in return? Don't be stupid, Shirou!

...

Well, if that happens, at least it'd be my choice.

I can't accept that kind of answer! It's so selfish!

Carelessly giving your life without worrying about the impact it would have on others! That's selfish, Shirou!

[ She seems more agitated with the idea of his death than the fact she almost died herself. ]

...Uh. I guess I hadn't thought about that.

[Not that it shakes his resolve enough to get him to stop.]

Well, you better start thinking about it now! Do you think I want you to die instead of me if that kind of stupid situation ever occurred? Leaving me by myself to wallow in guilt and pity.. That's not a kind act at all!

But then if you died, then I would have been the one feeling guilty. So what am I supposed to do?
