...Then a memory surged back into his mind before his mind's eye.

A memory of a man, resting on the porch. A twelve-year-old Shirou with him. Talking about superheroes and ideals. The main failed to reach his ideal...so his son promised to take it up for him.

Those were the last words his father would ever hear from his son.]

He... He died... He's...dead...

[But he forgot that his phone was on.]

I'm pretty sure it's a normal thing for people to do. But are you really interested in arguing about something this small?

[ Does he really need to ask something so obvious? ]

Then why haven't you hung up yet?

...I don't know. I guess I'm just hoping for something a little...bigger to talk about.

Geez, how does that phrase go? If you want something done, you should do it yourself? If you want to talk about something different, then you should change the subject. Well, I suppose I can help you out. Have you learned anything else from your home?

[Geez, Rin, you're sure kicking a guy when he's down, or so Shirou feels. But he's not in the mood to argue about that, so he ignores it.]

...Yeah. That's what I just remembered.

The person who died...he was my father.

Wha-? [ Thankfully, with only 10% of her own memories regained, she's a lot softer than usual with that kind of news. ] Your father passed away..?

Yeah, he did. I was right next to him when it happened. It felt like it happened about five years ago.

[gandere]

Right next to him? So it was a natural death?

I guess so. I didn't know he was sick, though. All I could tell was that he was just more tired than usual.

[gandere]

Maybe he didn't want you to know. Isn't that a thing a father should concern himself with? Not letting their child know when they are sick and weak.. yes, that certainly is something a parent would do.

...Maybe he did. I think that was a mistake, but he could have done it. It's something he would have done.

[gandere]

You're pretty fond of your father, aren't you..?

[ There's an obvious pause. ]

Um.. do you want me to hang up now? It seems intrusive of me now, doesn't it?

...No, it's okay. I feel like I might as well keep going now that I've started. If you're willing to listen.

[gandere]

I suppose I have no choice now that you've put me in that spot. Well, let's hear it then.

...Well...yes. I did love my dad. I can't remember if I already told you or not, but he saved my life. There was a big fire in the neighborhood I lived in, and my previous family died in it. I probably would have died, too, if my dad hadn't found me.

[gandere]

Ah.. your adopted father? I suppose that's an entirely different thing. Isn't it strange that you remember him before your family though?

...I'm not sure I can. My memory of the fire is really vague. You'd think a traumatic event like that would make it really strong, but I really only remember what happened near the end.

[gandere]

Hm.. maybe you're unable to remember due to the trauma. I'm not certain.. surely there's a doctor here who might be able to help you?

Maybe. But I probably should wait until I've remembered more, shouldn't I?

If that's how you feel about it.. I don't think waiting will help much though.
