# 5 - Just Stir and Eat

[VIDEO]

[Shampoo pops up from the bottom of the camera with a wide smile stuck on her face. It's a bit of a surprise to see her with make-up on and in a Mandarin Gown instead of her normal martial art outfit but it's no surprise when you see the background. Behind her, the small building with the sign Cat Cafe has a banner with the words GRAND OPENING and balloons in front.

She closes her fan with a flick of her wrist and points directly at the camera.]

Nǐ hǎo ma? Are you hungry for the best noodle dishes? Fried rice with shrimp? Wonton soup or chicken feet? Szechuan mapo tofu or Hong Kong style congee?

Then lái-lái, lái-lái! Come in to Cat Cafe! Come in! Our doors are open! Where the chef and workers are pretty to look at and food tastes delicious. Today's grand opening so all prices are half off!

[ACTION]

[It's a bit mind-boggling to see how many people came and stop by to the small building. The lines are thankfully short but tables are packed, forcing some groups of people to sit with strangers they might not know.

The 17 year old girl is running around taking orders and serving food but the majority of the time, she's in the back kitchen putting on a small cooking show. With fire and throwing knives! Best duck when one of them comes flying a bit too close to your personal space.]

Though he would never admit it, Shen has been having a downright bizarre craving for noodles for the last couple days. No idea why. So when he sees Shampoo's ad, he goes trundling down the street to the Cat Cafe. He figures maybe the reactions of the general public to the presence of a giant talking Peacock won't be quite so bad seeing as he's left the weaponry and foot claws at home.

He had not, however, banked on there being such a crowd there. He nearly turns around and leaves but, damnit, he's hungry and he came all this way. So he tries to make his way inside, tail feathers and all.

Oh, dear.

It's not hard to miss the sight of the peacock waiting for a table but Shampoo can't drop everything to seat her bird-friend. It's a 3 minute wait but Shampoo finally comes out to host in a frilly apron. The girl smiles at her fellow kung-fu friend.

"Ni hao! Party for 1? We have single table by window if you like."

"Hm? Oh. Yes. Yes, that would be--" a pause as he pulls his tail feathers out from between a few stumbling people, "--ideal. Thank you."

He looks a little ruffled, as this was probably the longest three minutes of his life, what with absolutely everyone tripping over his feathers or getting tangled in them. "It certainly is crowded...."

"Shampoo's glad it is," she tells Shen as they navigate through the narrow aisles and around fellow staff. Her hostess smile shrinks to an honest melancholy grin. "Though it hard to handle, it's fun and a connection to home for me."

They make it to the table with relatively little fuss. "Here's your menu and would you like tea? By the way, we only have oolong or chrysanthemum here."

"Yes, it... seems familiar to me, as well, somewhat," Shen observes contemplatively. The smell of the food, especially, tickles the back of his memory. He arranges himself on the chair, doing his best to keep six feet of tail feathers out of everyone's way. He murmurs his thanks when handed a menu and seems to actually ponder the question of tea.

"I can't remember if I like tea or not... isn't that strange? Still, no better way to find out. I'd like to try the oolong."

He looks at the menu thoughtfully.

She turns to throw a nearby fork -"Don't worry, I'll replace that"- at one of her workers for disrespecting a customer and barks out for a pot of oolong to be delivered to table 3. She calmly looks back at Shen with a notebook and pencil in hand. "You can't remember what tea taste like? Well, now I feel bad since we don't have the best quality here."

The tea arrives and Shampoo flips her notebook over for a clean sheet. "Do you need more time with menu? Or are you already or order? Shampoo recommends-" Oh wait... bird. Can't recommend anything with birds in it can she? "-I recommend the beef curry noodles."

Shen is impressed with her fork throwing skill. He quirks one eyebrow and makes a suitably impressed sound before returning his attention to the menu.

Normally he is not an indecisive bird, but there is an enormous list of choices and after a beat he looks up again. Ah. Tea. And a chance to escape having to battle his sudden culinary waffling. Seeing as how he's been more or less subsisting on microwaveable food and whatever his roommate shares since his own cooking can be best described as 'terrifying on a Lovecraftian level' (and honestly? It's also been known to explode occasionally), he's game to try anything.

"Hmm, I think I'll try that, thank you." He pours an itty cup of tea and, for some reason, stops to inhale the scent, first.

With a skip to her step, she walks into the curtained off kitchen. From the window where orders are picked up, Shampoo can be seen cooking. Bowls seem to be filling themselves and vegetables seem to be perfectly diced up in midair by an unknown force. In reality, Shampoo's hands are just too fast for the untrained eye to keep up. With her marital art school of cooking skills, the food is ready in just 5 minutes.

She bounces back with a steaming bowl. "Service with a smile! Enjoy!" She doesn't leave and just stands there, focusing on Shen's reaction.

Thank you! A nice boy made the dress for me a while back but I haven't seen him in a while. I hoping I attract enough customers with this look.

Eh! Really?! Xiè xiè, thank you! I wouldn't mind help for grand opening since some of the workers left the city.

[ She claps her hands together smiling at her. ]

I'd love to help you, Shampoo! Should I go now to there?

[Shampoo copies the older woman's movements. Oh happy day!]

If it no trouble! I'll have uniform ready for you!

I shall be there soon then! See you there.

[ she looks so excited at the idea.. ]

[Iroh is stopping here for lunch. Because he doesn't really have a lot to do around here.]

Hmmm...I have to admit I'm curious about the Szechuan mapo tofu.

[Unlike Iroh, Moist does have something to do, though a lot of it's rather illegal. Of course, even criminals need to take a break once in a while.]

Wonton soup sounds good to me.

[Speaking of Barnaby, he's rather busy serving tables. Occasionally he'll rush off to the kitchen (and duck throwing knives) to get a new order to drop off. Maybe you're one of the people he's serving, in which case, enjoy the eye candy.

...or you can catch him on his break, eating cabbage rolls by himself. And before you ask, he made them himself.]

*Lunch break from snake monitoring time, man.*

Oi, Bunny! How's business?

It's going better than expected. Any news on the snake?

Not so much. It doesn't seem to be particularly mean or anything, it's just not BUDGING. I'd push it with my Hundred Power, but I don't know how it's gonna react.

Shampoo looks really pretty in her dress~

Xiè xiè Mokona! I hope I attract a lot of people with this look. After all, people love to look at pretty people.

Shampoo has good business sense! Her cafe must be doing really well~

[Sigh] Shampoo don't know though since so many problems happen before the grand opening. There was those blue demons and my missing worker. [She pouts and crosses her arms, emphasizing the form fitting gown even more.] I miss Arturia, no one would look as good in maid uniform like her.

Mokona looks really cute in a maid uniform!

Mokona knows lots of other people who would look cute in one, too.

Hmmm... Shampoo doesn't have a uniform Mokona size but if Mokona knows people who need job, spread the word for me!

Mokona will use her talent for spreading news~

Chicken what?

Chicken feet. It quite good with a glass of beer.

No offense, but I'll pass on that, thanks. I'm not feeling very adventurous today.
