Why: Because I want to.

As Palom had promised, the farm indeed boasted more wholesome family fun activities than you could shake an apple at.  While the main purpose of the day trip, ostensibly, was to finish up harvesting the fruit, the opportunity to explore the farm and its rural surroundings was enticing as well.  By mid-afternoon, Farmer Carol was fully satisfied with the hard work of the volunteers and announced that they were free to do as they pleased.

[Ky reaches for another marshmallow and holds it out in front of the fire.]

You know, thinking about it, it's strange. I can recognize the taste of a s'more, but I can't remember actually having one. I almost want to say, "It's been a long time since I've had one," but without my memories, I don't know that for certain.

Have you had any experiences like that here, if you don't mind my asking?

[ She's in an excellent mood if she's practically singing her joy over it. Even when he starts to talk about something serious, it takes her a couple of minutes before her own mood evens out to the same level. ]

[That gets a look of surprise. Ky turns his head away from the fire and toward the girl sitting next to him.]

Of course it's "it"! What other "it" could I possibly reference? I'm not a pervert or anything like that.

Yes, it's a pretty large sword. I can lift up easily but it's really about as big as me!

Really? It's as big as you are? If you can use that, that's impressive.

Well, now you know. I don't know a thing about it, but it's pretty strange looking. It's covered in these thin half-circle blades and everything. I should show it to you sometime, shouldn't I?

Oh, I hid it because I didn't want to look hostile. There's a lot of people here that don't remember things and that's pretty frightening. If they see some of us are armed, they might be less willing to befriend those who are. I really just didn't want to lose out on any opportunities to become someone's pal.

Then again, I did lie about it. I guess I'm pretty dishonest and not worthy of being a friend, right?

What? No, not at all! I don't mean to say that lying is a good thing, but it's something that nearly everybody does once in a while. Sometimes it's even a necessary deed, depending on circumstances.

We haven't known each other very long, but I can tell that you have multiple redeeming qualities. One lie isn't enough to negate them.

You had a justifiable reason, that's why. I would be less forgiving if that were not the case.

Well, that's...typically not something that a person would just flat out ask somebody else. Your asking it caught me completely off-guard.

Well, it's not that they wouldn't want to know. It's that such a question puts the person being asked in an awkward situation.

Why is it awkward? If you mean to always tell me the truth, then you can just agree outright. Anyone who doesn't is only guilty of being dishonest.

It's not easy for people to promise to avoid doing something as simple to do as tell a lie. That's why it makes them feel awkward.
