[Months in the future, but not many...

It all went wrong six months ago, when Hiroshi tried to banish the oni. It didn't work as expected. In fact it did the exact opposite. The rod only effected maybe one person in ten, but that was more than enough. Each effected person had exploded, revealing a fully formed, blue, mindless killing machine. Within a week, half the city was dead or worse, the rest running for their lives. Now Sirocco is in burning ruins, with oni wandering the streets, chasing and killing anyone they come across.

The last survivors are holed up in the laboratory at the heart of the city. The oni haven't managed to find a way in quite yet, but it's only a matter of time.

Dave abruptly stands up from where he had been sitting in the corner, getting some rest.]

That's it. I give. This is a lost cause.

[ooc: Just as described, this is in the future. However, it's not the only future. This is a splinter timeline, and none of the events leading up to this are actually going to happen after the Ao Oni plot is resolved. To that end, when tagging this feel free to make up various horrible or heroic things that have happened over the last few months. The vast majority of the game's cast are probably dead or turned to Oni by this point, so if you don't tag here, it's likely you're dead.

Again, these events will not come to pass and have no effect on the game outside of this post beyond what Future Dave and Supernova remember.]

Everybody hear me? I think I've managed to locate a solution to our problems with the blue monsters that have been showing up. It may be a long shot, but it's better than nothing.

According to this book I found in the library, there's an artifact that has the potential to seal away monsters. It's called the Rod of Calem-Sur, and if you use it at the highest point in the middle of an infected area, it'll take care of them for you. The only thing is, it seems to have been separated into two parts for whatever reason, the shaft and the orb. Thankfully, there's some coordinates listed that indicate where they might be, but it'll be rough going for both of them, so I'm going to need help to get them.

I'm sure we all see the trouble with letting these things run around, so I'd appreciate anybody who lends their assistance.

((OOC: OOC signup posts will be up shortly. One will be a more action-heavy log, and the other more puzzle heavy. As another note, as of the end of the library log, there is now officially a chance to run into Onis in POPULATED buildings, with the only exception at the moment being the Hotel itself. Again, this is an opt-in plot, so it is entirely up to players if they want to deal with them, or at least see increasing numbers of quarantined buildings.))

Notes: Part of the Ao Oni plot. Remember that it is possible to die and become an Oni, but this is entirely mun fiat. Note that the plot will still advance if this thread does not wrap up within the week, but a lot of things will have to be handwaved.

So I WAS going to ask if people had experience with technology - specifically futuristic or alien tech - but I think I'll have to put that one on the backburner. Guys? Quick question here: say you remembered you were dating someone.

But you're not sure if you even wanted to date this someone in the first place. How the heck would you even go about it? Break it up? Pretend it doesn't exist? Try to block it out with those weird blue-things I saw about a week ago?

... Seriously. Those weird things are actually just as scary as this memory. I hear they're out and about, so be careful, and y'all? If you run into 'em, just run and get the crap outta there.

[There's a rather loud knock on Booster's door. Jaime's not too sure if he came at a bad time, even though he sent a couple of messages in advance, but... he figured news like this should be said aloud.]

*Gradually, similar incidents occurred; some people were lucky enough to escape and tell the tale. Alerts are given on a daily basis over the PDAs warning adventurers away from certain buildings due to highly durable and vicious blue monsters showing up in various abandoned parts of town.

Hiroshi stares at the latest alerts, his face even paler than it is normally.*

((OOC: Starting from this post, Ao Onis are beginning to crop up within the city limits. Abandoned buildings have a high chance of an Oni or two being present, and the longer they've been there the harder it is to leave due to their strange love of puzzles and locks. Feel free to have people discuss the outbreak, or meet it first hand. Hiroshi is here, but feel free to talk with other characters in this post too.))

[Hey, know what this city needs?

Well, neither do I. But it's probably not yet another confused newbie. Which is unfortunate, because that's what just showed up. He was given the quickie explanation, but let's face it, that raises more questions than it does answers. He was also given a room, and residents of the Ermis suites can find a boy wandering around and staring at the various room numbers until he finds his. 413, if you're curious. Pretty much everything about him screams 'nooooob.' So feel free to bother him.

Once he gets to his room, he'll be bothering all of you anyway. He has way too many questions right now, and he's hoping to get answers to a few of them. The video feed clicks on, and anyone watching is greeted with a hopeful smile.]

Oh, neat! It does video too!

[He gives everyone a hesitant wave.]

[He's just now realizing how awkward introducing yourself becomes when you don't know you at all. This is already the most confusing thing ever. Maybe. Unless he's already seen the most confusing thing ever. It's not like he'd remember it if he did. Yeah, this place is starting to give him a headache. But he'll worry about all of that later. For now, he just gives the camera an embarrassed smile and continues.]

Soo... has anyone else noticed that the explanation they give you when you get here doesn't actually explain a whole lot? Would anyone mind answering a couple of questions? Like about our memories and those thingies we're supposed to find?

[The feed's a little jerky, and there's a sound from below, like Ken's hitting something periodically with his feet.]

I regained another memory today. It's mysterious, how out of order recall seems. My parents' names and faces are still unclear.

But I remembered something from my daily life! I'm a striker for the local soccer club. That's a position that mostly handles offense. Wormmon's never seen me play, but he says he'd heard I was pretty good!

Did anyone else used to play a sport?

[He actually sounds like he's almost laughing.

For those in the general area of the Ermis Suites, Ken's in the park across the way, kicking a soccer ball around with Wormmon and generally having a good ole time. He has a hobby! He has a hobby and a nice, normal life somewhere!]

...Hey. I went to the ruins recently, and...

--And anyway, we saw... things in there. Blue things. No matter what we tried, all we could do was slow them down. And we tried a lot. They could break out of my isolation, and lightning would only stun them.

And...

One of them... I think he was this guy's friend.

[He nudges the communicator over. Yes, that's definitely a moogle. It appears to be quietly sniffling on Yuta's bed.]

It looked just like him at first, but when we tried to talk to it, it turned into one of those things and started chasing us.

[He takes a deep breath. Frankly, he'd wanted to put those things from his mind once he was done with the place, but after watching his new friend cry for a while, he'd come to a different decision on the matter.]

[This isn't really a post! It's a post jumpstarter.]

[You see, Vriska just remembered about her psychic powers, and is immediately setting about testing them. What does this mean for you? It means she's going to be trying to put people to sleep.]

[Anyone, especially people Vriska knows, might suddenly feel a wave of fatigue wash over them. Or they might suddenly be out like a light. This especially happens at awkward, hilarious, or potentially dangerous moments. What is the result of this? You, the reader, can decide, and you alone. And a certain Karkat might suddenly punch himself in the face for no reason.]

[So, either play wacky narcolepsy threads out in the comments, use them for OOC plotting of wacky sleep antics, or even make your own posts????? I don't know, I'm making this up as I go along.]

[Throughout the day, Yuta has been keeping to himself. Even if your character should encounter him, he'll turn the nearest corner and vanish without a trace. It's possible to catch him in the middle of a hallway or a street, but judging by his expression he's got a lot on his mind.

It isn't until later in the day that he stops this, sitting himself down in the Ermis lobby. Given how many weird powers are around, it's hard to justify keeping it a secret. Besides, after seeing the people around here, he's fairly confident nothing too bad would come of letting others know.]

I remembered some more things. The thing where I can heal quickly - that's not all there was to it. Mainly, I've got the ability to isolate things.

[He holds up a pebble in his upturned palm, only for the pebble to vanish. Attentive viewers may catch the flicker of a box-like form around the stone before it completely disappears.] As long as it's isolated, nothing can touch it from the outside. And if it was something that could move, it wouldn't be able to get out either.

[The pebble appears again, and he closes his hand around it.] I don't remember using it more than once, but I'm sure I must have. It might even be useful for exploring those ruins.

((OOC: 5% to getting hit by the virus and the aftermath regarding his parents, plus his powers as a Comrade.))

[Having procured himself a red winter coat and a pair of heavy white gloves, he's up on a roof, helping to shovel the snow off.]

[But he's currently pecking off unsuspecting pedestrians with snowballs.]

[He stares at the camera for a moment. And no, he's not sitting in the dark place so the slight redness of his eyes is harder to see, nope.]

[Ken and Wormmon have decided to retrieve the fallen wedding ring from the sewer! Wormmon climbed down on in and successfully located the missing item, swept a bit down the pipe.

Except now Ken is kneeling, as if prepared to climb in himself. From a ways away comes a plaintive cry:]

Ken-chaaaaan!

[Yuta looks... shaken. And judging by that ominously red-stained cloth he's holding up to the side of his forehead, he has a fairly good reason to be.]

...So I slipped. I think... I hit my head on the edge of the sidewalk. It happened so fast, and I was dizzy, and there was a lot of blood-

[There is a pause. He's still trying to sort all of this out.]

Anyway, some people saw it happen and came to help. They got me to the hospital somehow-- I don't remember too well - but something was weird.

[He slowly lowers the cloth. The wound is highly visible, but not what you would expect from one having been inflicted not too long ago. In fact, it looks reasonably well on the way to recovery. There are no signs of stitches, and yet it has not only stopped bleeding but also begun to heal somewhat.]

...Do people... usually heal faster here?

Because of the moon falling, Mokona's a little late with the job board this time! For everyone new, this is Mokona's job. Mokona finds out "irregular" things that people want done and then tells everybody else. Some of them are hard, but some of them are things that everyone can do.

Helping People Jobs

- There's a lot of snow around now! It's not very exciting, but we need people to sweep it up off the sidewalks and driveways. We also need people to sweep it off roofs so they don't fall in, which is a little more exciting, but easier to get hurt doing.

- Someone's wedding ring fell in the sewer! Pretty gross, huh? Anyway, they need someone small with a bad sense of smell to go in and get it for them. Most of the drains where it might be are big enough for someone short to stand up in, but anyone big would have to crawl. If you really need money, you can do it, but it could be really gross.

Scary Jobs

- The bears were getting pretty worked up a while back. A few of them even chased a boy up a tree. It's cold enough for bears to start going to sleep, which is good. But one of them decided that the best place to sleep in the winter is Farmer Murphy's goat shed, which isn't so good, because now the goats are too scared to go inside.

- A gang of peg-legged penguins with swords came and stole Mr. Yamanaka's beautiful prize tropical fish. He wants his fish back and the thieves punished. This might be a job for the "heroes" but he's worried enough about his fish that he's okay with going "freelance".

Big Jobs

- We really are getting a lot of weird monsters around! Someone in town wants to put together a helpful book about them, but some of them are trouble and she says she's too busy to do everything herself.

There's a lot of monsters and animals, so the pay depends on how much "info" you can bring back.

There was some other stuff, too. I lived in Saitama with my parents and my dad worked at a bank. I don't remember why, but I moved in with my grandparents when I was eight.

[...This actually bothers him a bit - what circumstances would make his parents leave him in the care of his grandparents? Still, he pauses only a fraction of a second before he continues.]

Everything else is just ordinary, day to day things. School, home life; things like that.

Is it normally this easy? Nothing's distinct, but I feel like I've remembered plenty about my life already.
